Uganda international Peace Proscovia has today been named as the first official ambassador for the Netball World Cup – taking place from 12-21 July 2019 at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
The 28-year-old Loughborough Lightning goal shooter, who will represent Uganda at next month’s Commonwealth Games in Australia, was named as an ambassador for the event as the world marks International Women’s Day.
Speaking on her appointment, Proscovia, who represented Uganda at the 2015 World Cup in Sydney, commented:
“I am very happy to be named as the first ambassador for Netball World Cup 2019.
“Netball has brought me to a place I never dreamed of and it is a great honour to be part of this sport and represent my country at the highest level.
“Netball is a sport that can help open ways for people to achieve anything they want in life – where I am now is because of netball so I am looking forward to working with the Netball World Cup team to show our wonderful sport at its best.”
Netball World Cup 2019 Event Director, Lindsay Impett said:
“Netball World Cup 2019 is an event that will empower and inspire women and girls the world over and Peace absolutely embodies this.
“As a player representing her country at the top of the game, Peace is a fantastic role model for netballers everywhere and her inspirational story really demonstrates the impact of netball on the lives of people in all of our competing nations.
“We are looking forward to working with Peace over the next eighteen months as we bring the Netball World Cup 2019 to life.”
Uganda will attempt to book their place at the World Cup at the Netball World Cup 2019 Regional Qualifier – Africa in August.
